The growing speed of globalization has a deep impact upon the political decision-making processes. Within this context, the importance of international relations (IR) as a field of social science has increased dramatically. This particular situation largely explains the interest shown to the departments of international relations in recent years.
The primary objective of the four-year study of international relations is to produce broadminded students, to give them a high level of analytical and synthetical skills so as to enable them to contribute dearly to their future professional environments. This consists of equipping students with deep political knowledge characterized by a cross-border dimension while enabling them to follow the international economic and political developments. Nevertheless, this objective must not give the impression that the IR programme is restricted to the students who aim to pursue a diplomatic career. The perspective and the solution-oriented approach provided by the four-year curriculum bestows the students with significant benefits regardless of their career plans. The fact that IR graduates succeed in both private sector and the non-governmental organizations justifies this argument.
The curriculum of the IR Department is designed to provide graduates with a wide array of skills. With this objective in mind, the freshman year will focus on basic social science concepts which will constitute the infrastructure of the years to come. In addition, students will learn to analyze numerical data and develop their computer skills. Historical, political and legal studies will make up the additional content of the sophomore year.
Hence, the program’s first two years aim to build up the strong grounds for the graduate profile identified above. During their junior year, which should be considered the beginning of professional specialization, students will analyze the decision making processes of IR actors while focusing on various institutional and organizational structures. The senior year will be characterized, simultaneously, by political and strategic analyses.
