The double mission of the Department of Communication Studies is to provide undergraduates with a strong liberal arts education and to help them become better consumers and producers of public information. Therefore the four-year program not only strengthens the students’ understanding of the role of communication in their personal, professional and civic lives but it also prepares them for private and public-sector leadership positions in communication-related and other fields.
We offer theoretical and applied courses in the fields of journalism, radio and TV broadcasting, advertising and public relations. Students may choose to specialize in one of these fields by taking the majority of their electives in the area of their interest.
Our goal is to excel in teaching, research and service by fostering critical perspectives; integrating theory and practice and contributing to a well-informed and participatory citizenship. Only in this way do we believe we will be able to respond to local and global demands for communication knowledge.
