Having graduates who possess the ability to compete both at national and international levels, qualified academic staff, accredited departments in the field of science and technology, Istanbul Technical University has been a pioneer university for 239 years in Turkey. ITU has been providing students with education in global standards through study abroad and scientific research opportunities, and also through collaboration with the industry and innovations it presents nationwide and worldwide.
ITU, as a focal institution in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, has started its academic life in Gazimağusa Campus. The students have the opportunity to complete part of their education in ITU Istanbul Campus within the conditions which will be designated by the ITU Rectorate.
Studying at ITU-North Cyprus is subject to a fee. The annual tuition fee for English Preparatory classes and undergraduate programmes in 2013-2014 academic year is 7.500 USD for international students. The payments for the specified annual tuition fee can be paid in two instalments (50% for each term).
The completion of annual tuition fees payments should be done on the payment dates stated in the Academic calendar and any late payments are subject to penalty. The stated fees are not applicable for Summer School Programmes.
Scholarships awarded to students are unconditional. Students who are awarded fullscholarship (100%) are not obliged to pay tuition fees for 5 years (1 year Preparatory School and 4 years Undergraduate Programme). Similarly, students with 50% scholarships are exempt of paying 50% of their tuition fees.
In Famagusta, there are several dormitories offering comfortable accommodation. Some of them are within the walking distance from the campus, yet students can still use the free shuttle bus to commute. Also available are fully furnished flats, the rents of which range from 400 TL to 700 TL per month.
Famagusta is neither very big nor crowded. Cyprus drives on the left and the traffic is not heavy on the island. It is a bicycle friendly city. Taxis are comfortable and affordable.
Cost of Living
The currency used in the TRNC is Turkish Lira. A student’s monthly expenses do not exceed 1.500 TL including accommodation and food.
