In recent years, civil aviation transport activities are developing rapidly and its importance within the general transportation system is increasing day by day. Within these rapid developments, the need for personnel with education in both basic aviation and management, which are the vital elements of the aviation sector, has increased and thus the training of young people who will pave the way for the development of the sector has become very important.
International organizations and major aircraft manufacturers estimate that the passenger and freight transport, which has doubled every 15 years in the past, will continue to increase in the annual average of about 5% and the number of aircraft available in the world will double within the next 20 years.
The number of air passengers which was around 100 million in the 1950s, has reached to 1 billion in the 1970s, and today to 2.8 billion. Over the world, in the last decade, has experienced an increase in annual average close to 5%. In the late years, in our country the annual growth rate increased up to 15%’s, well above world averages, where the number of passengers reached to 65 million in 2012. Turkey is becoming a leading regional center in civil aviation, not only in the passenger-freight carrige but also in the airport and terminal operations and aircraft maintenance services.
Department of Aviation Management has began education in 2011, to contribute to the need of skilled personnel and managers for civil air transport which experiences a rapid development in the world and in our country.
Department of Aviation Management is aimed to educate young students in English, to equip with basic aviation and business information who will keep aviation safety in the foreground, and will be ready for the existing systems, high technology applications and constantly ready for innovations and to team work.
After the English Preparatory School, 4 year training program will concentrate both on in aviation management [basic aviation, airport and aircraft/flight information, airport ground handling services (aircraft-passengers), airport and terminal management, aviation law, aviation safety]and in business management (economics, computer sciences, communications and human resources). The civil aviation sector is one of the world’s fastest growing sectors in terms of rapidly developing technology and evolving activities. Moreover in our country, 2-3 times growth is expected for this dynamic sector. New airports are being made, existing ones are developing and airlines are growing both in the number of aircraft in fleet and in flights. In this context, the need for trained personnel in aviation is becoming more vital for the sector.
Our graduates will work in airport and terminal operators, airline companies, airport ground handling organizations and in the public and private enterprises that directly or indirectly supports passenger and aircraft operations.
