Overview

The development of information technology and growing use of mobile devices have increased the need for high-quality software which enables effective usage of new devices equipped with the new technology. In parallel, Software Engineering has gained more importance and has come into focus as a profession that will contribute to the country’s economy. Software Engineering is featured as “Profession of the Future” in many independent institutions. In addition, the interest in Software Engineering as well as the need for software engineers in the sector have grown undeniably in the last 10 years. Consequently, within the framework of these observations, the Department of Software Engineering was established in 2005, and is currently one of the thirteen programs in Turkey offering undergraduate degrees in this domain. In our department, along with the basic phases of a software life cycle (analysis, design, implementation, etc.) and related methodologies, various specialized topics such as Object-Oriented Analysis and Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Software Quality Assurance, Software Requirements Engineering, Database Systems, Software Design and Architecture, Software Project Management, Software Testing and Service-Oriented Architecture and Workflow Management are covered. As a result, it is aimed to graduate distinguished and qualified software engineers who are able to design and develop high-quality, reliable, high-performance software, which is easy to use, operate and maintain that can be easily integrated to other systems.

Programme structure

According to the requirements of the software sector, the curriculum of the department aims at graduating engineers who can work in any phase of large-scale software development. The Software Engineering program has been accredited by MÜDEK for 5 years until 2019, and has qualified for the EUR-ACE label. The hardware and software laboratories in the department include different hardware components and software tools, enabling the students to use state-of-the-art software technologies and resources such as mobile software development. The graduates of the department are able to find jobs in software companies, research and development institutes, industries that concentrate on computer technologies and software, such as banks and health facilities, computer centers of public and private institutions, universities, and many other fields. In our department, in addition to the undergraduate program, the Master’s program as well as the Ph.D program which was started this year are actively continuing with their research and educational activities.
Remember that, Software Engineering is one of the top future professions all over the world.
