Overview

Adjusting and working types of the cochlear implants and hearing aid, implementation of the subjective, objective hearing and balance tests which are thought as necessary in terms of diagnosis of hearing and balance disorder patients of otorhinolaryngology services of the hospitals with hearing devices and cochlear implant companies constitute an important part of the education. In addition, education of deaf children is also important in terms of audiometry techniques education. This education which is conducted to develop audiometry techniques having test information and ability in terms of hearing and balance disorder field of private and official health sectors aims to make our students equipped with craft knowledge and ability, also forming effective verbal communication, being able to work within a team, differentiating and solving the problems. One-month summer internships at the end of the first and second year with test methods applied in the hospital gives an opportunity to our students to have the experience before starting their business life. The objective of the audiometry program is to train health personnel who are educated at the level of vocational school and who could determine hearing and hearing disorders. It is necessary for the students who would like to enter in audiometry program to know they have a direct relationship with the patient in terms of this subject that is about human health. Patient relations hold a special qualification and necessitate a rigorous and patient approach. Since audiology is a new field of science that is growing fast, occupational performance and desire for research of the people who would like to select this job should necessarily be in a very good level.

Programme structure

Students attending in this program participate in an education program consisting of two years practical implementations and theoretical courses in order to diagnose patients in a right manner and implement audiometric tests used for audiometry. Students have main courses in terms of hearing and measuring, objective test methods, audiometric tests in atypical child, hearing loss and reasons, anatomy and physiology of hearing and speaking, sound physics and acoustic principals, principals of audiology, child audiological test methods, vestibular system test methods, advanced test methods in audiometry and also the courses in terms of growing psychology, psychology, first and immediate aid, occupational ethics, quality and accreditation in health, vocational English.

Career opportunities

Graduates of this program perform differential diagnosis tests by measuring the hearing as “Audiometry Techniques” under the supervision of the audiologist and otorhinolaryngology diseases specialist at the hospitals and private clinics. Graduates of this program can work in audiology clinics of public and private hospitals under the supervision of otorhinolaryngology diseases specialist and audiology specialist. They can perform hearing test on the newborn at obstetrics clinics and make hearing screening tests at schools. If we take into account that need for audiometry techniques by audiological diagnosis centers and hearing device and cochlear implant distributor companies, there is also opportunity to work in these kinds of private institutions.
