-International students applying for a masters program at KHAS must have a bachelor degree. The graduation GPA must be minimum 2.00/4.00.Students who have taken standardized graduate exams (GRE, GMAT, ALES) may also submit their scores. If available, a copy of the Graduate Programs Entrance Exam Score Report.

Students with high GPA and/or standardized exam scores may qualify for scholarships. Applicant students may be called for an interview in person or via telephone or skype.
The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Turkish.
Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.
You must take verified copies of the entry qualification documents along with you when you finally go to the university.
International students, except for native speakers of English, applying for programs where the language of instruction is English, are strongly recommended to submit the following English language test scores during their application. Students who cannot submit any one of these tests may take the KHAS English Proficiency Test upon arrival (September10-15, January 10-15).
Test scores for English proficiency: TOEFL-IBT: 79, IELTS academic: 5.5, ÜDS: 66/100 or KHAS English Proficiency Test: minimum 60/100.
Students who cannot demonstrate sufficient English proficiency must attend the KHAS English Preparatory Program for up to 1 year, before they can start their graduate program. Attendance to this program is subject to the payment of separate fees (6.500 USD).
International students applying to an academic program taught in Turkish, except for those whose native language is Turkish, must demonstrate sufficient proficiency in Turkish during the application.

Biology, biotechnology and biosciences have been rapidly developing since 2000. To handle the data produced, computer technology is required due to the excessive amount of data. Most of the recent techniques used in DNA, RNA and protein based research is supported by bioinformatics and computer science. The computer science offers a new era for the biological sciences. For example the building block of the cell, proteins are modeled in 3D using computer; this enables the rapid and efficient identification of molecular interactions and signal transduction pathways. Similarly, mutations in the genetic sequence can be detected quite fast using the computer technology. Since the recent advancements in computational biology decreased the cost and accelerated the research processes including the drug development, the in silico studies are highly demanded in industry.
The young scientists having PhD from our department will have strong background on molecular biology and genetics, analyze the biological data using bioinformatics tools, develop tools, algorithms, and design drug candidates using computational biology techniques such as molecular modeling and simulations. This program is similatly close to basic science, translational science and applications in the sector.
The advanced genetic and computer technology has generated the intensive data processing needs and offered an environment where biology can be generated in silico. Revolutionary applications have been developed and are being developed. Bioinformaticians are globally sought; to answers such needs and develop applications. This need is predicted to in increase even higher in medical field quite soon.
Kadir Has University PhD Program in Bioinformatics and Genetics founded under Science Institute is the sole Bioinformatics and Genetics program in Turkey. Having a curriculum parallel with the well-known and highly respected universities around the world, our PhD program targets raising scientists to have strong international interactions and always up-to-date with cutting edge science. In our department, research and education are kept in a balance. One branch of education that will be given throughout PhD is genetics. This education comprises both classical and modern genetic techniques. The other branch of the education is computational biology and bioinformatics. These two sciences, both very young, are the generation of biological data in silico, and process of the biological data in silico, respectively. Our students will finalize their education, having courses on cell biology, human genetics, medicinal chemistry, structural drug design, molecular simulation, quantum chemistry, statistics and programming.
Currently, the leading pharmaceutical companies worldwide are running giant projects on bioinformatics and genetics research. This newly developing sector demands a great number of researchers. Our grads may continue their careers both in academia and private companies. They will have the interdisciplinary expertise, having solid background genetics, handling biological data effectively, which they can apply this into medicine, chemistry, biotechnology, agriculture, energy and similar fields.
