Okan University, Urban Design and Landscape Architecture Department is the first and unique education program in itself in Istanbul. The department aims to educate landscape architects who have ability to design structural and natural environments related with the requirement of visual, functional, technical, economical and ecological quality and sustainable urban space and also who are tend to study in interdisciplinary studies.
Urban Design and Landscape Architecture profession area, which has began to develop recently in our country, has a plural language character at the intersection of design, architecture and engineering disciplines. Our department aims to educate urban designers and landscape architects, who adopt the rules related with the functioning urban public spaces and strenghtening urban character with the conservation and sustainable planning and design of the natural, historical and cultural environment, and who has creative and innovative personality.
The targets of our applied education program are;
To give information to the students and increase their capabilities by utilizing from the collaboration of nature, design and engineering disciplines in the scope of urban environment.
To educate intellectual designers and practitoners who are conscious about urban problems occuring on global, territorial and local scales, closely following to the professional field information and technology,
having abilities in making scientific and systematic synthesis and taking decisions in multi-faceted way.
A collective course program is carried out with the Architecture Department during the first two semesters in order to strenghten the relationships between the collaborative professions with urban design/landscape architecture and to facilitate double major opportunities with them. In addition to this, successful students can study at the European universities with ERASMUS program. The education language is applied as 30% English in order to prepare our students to follow international and national developments occuring in the Professional field of study.
Our department’s academic staff comprises from academicians, designers and practitioners from different areas of expertise. As well as campus education, an interactive learning environment is provided for students with urban design and landscape architecture conferences, seminars, fairs, excursions and workshops. Especially, our department is in an effort for creating an information sharing based infrastructure on both local and global scale within the framework of international and national collaborations.
