The aim of the Department is to raise people who can produce new mathematical knowlegde, analyze problems in the professional life by setting mathematical models as in interaction with social sciences, and to contribute to the development of both society and of thier own.
Mathematics, apart from being and indispensible tool in almost all branches of science and technology is itself a branch of science studied for its own sake in order to do research. The department aims at providing a self- balanced education in mathematics and equips students with a high level of analytical understanding and a skill of analyzing the connections between the concepts of the discipline. The program emphasizes both abstract and applied branches of mathematics. It is also possible to do a double major in Maths and another program. By completing the requirements of both of the programs, the student can be awarded with both degrees.
The objective of this program is to educate students to become experts who are able to work and direct projects in fields which require knowledge of mathematics. The program will first provide students with a solid foundation by acquainting them with the fundamentals of mathematics. Next students will be given the opportunity to specialize in sub-fields such as statistics, cryptology, etc. Students may also take additional courses from other master’s degree programs at Okan University in order to enrich their knowledge.
