Turkish Language and Literature offers a creative space for those who want to find hints of our existence and indentity and to investigate the mysteries of this reflection and manifestation.

Programme structure

Our department, being aware of the rich legacy of the Turkish language and its literature, aims to offer a perspective for understanding what is expressed in the language and literature of both the past and the present. We offer a curriculum that shows the importance of the universality and national and local qualities of literature in the philosophical, political, and psychological sense. It is also among our primary goals to examine what meaning literature expresses in the light of other disciplines. While the focus in our department is on Turkish literature, we will also look at other literatures through a comparative approach. While examining literature from the Ottoman period, we’ll also look at Arabic, Persian, Urdu, and Çağatay literature. While studying the modern period, in addition to Western literature, we’ll also look at Iranian, Greek, Japanese, Kurdish, Armenian, Arab, Indian, Urdu, Latin American and other literatures which express a different modernization experience.

Career opportunities

Our primary aim is to prepare future critics, literary researchers, linguists…that is to say, our future colleagues. Thanks to our department’s close relationship with the world of publishing, you’ll find work opportunities in the publishing sector. In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to be employed by the Yunus Emre Foundation, TIKA, or other organizations that operate at the international level, working as an expert in your field, sharing Turkish culture abroad. Also, it will be possible for you to work as a Turkish teacher in a university.
