Overview

Industrial Design is a field of discipline and profession that contains all kind of objects for everyday life and produced with industrial methods. It is an interdisciplinary area of specialization, bringing applied sciences and applied arts together. Responding to different expectations and necessity of users and producers (like function, comfort, aesthetics, economy, technology, safety, ethic, cultural value and identity), convenience and enriching lives, and produces original, creative, preference setted and up-to-date design solutions.

Programme structure

The aim of this department is firstly to raise designers, evaluate and interpret coming up needs, possibilities and limited current instruments in the frame of method and knowledge; transforming these interpretations into rational and modernist design solutions. Additionally our department has the ability to determine, get, produce and reproduce the needed knowledge that is needed more than overloading with standing data repertoire; and aims to raise professionals close to team-work. To be an effective part of the regional and global design culture’s network; to be a mediator to build strong ties between the university and industrial institutions, national/international educational institutions and professions; to host a modern education institute and atmosphere, that mixes scientific research with designing experience and artistic activity with technology, are other aims of the program.

The education period of the program is four years. The product design atelier forms the backbone of the program. After the basic design education working in corporation with the other art and design departments in the first year, the next year again in the design ateliers, while producing solutions to industrial design problems in different sizes and complexness in the one side, and sharpens the capacity of creativeness and technical equipment on the other side. In a second center, specialized field topics like design culture and technology accompany the atelier workings: e.g. design theory and methods, design history, material and production techniques, structure, ergonomics, product development and design management. This both centers are supported beside courses about model and prototype production, free hand drawing and visualization techniques with design, modeling and presenting in computer environment. In the fourth year the program is completed with educational internship and an independent senior project.
