The importance of Sociology in the 21st century is on the increase in parallel with economic, social and cultural developments. Sociology is a discipline which analyzes social change and social reality, at the same time finds remedies. In this sense, the subject of sociological analysis involves a broad range from individual’s relations with society to the analysis of the family; from rural and urban life to politics. The objective of the Department of Sociology is to provide students with analytical thinking and research expertise.
The program presents diversified courses in the field of sociology. In addition to theoretical knowledge, students take courses that would provide them experience in the research field.
Students graduated from this department may work in public administration like State Planning Organization, Turkish Statistics Institute, Development Agencies, and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and in private sector in media, advertising and human resources departments. Moreover, they may be assigned as specialist or consultant at the national and international independent organizations (ILO, UNDP, United Nations …etc.).
