Overview

Gastronomy is an art. It is the art of cooking, of learning how to use kitchen equipments, tableware, how to display food. Culinary cultures differ from country to country and globalization has brought into closer contact peole living in different areas, having different customs, different celebrations, different traditional foods. How food preparation has evolved through time, how culinary culture has developed, what kind of menus are prepared during ceremonial occasions, feast, weddings, small or large dinner parties, in restaurant, fast food stands, spa’s are topics covered in great details by the Department of Gastronomy.

Our department is part of the School of Applied Sciences of Okan University . The department conducts two programs . One where the teaching is conducted in Turkish and the other where 30% of the programme is conducted in English. Programme structure

Our four year program aims at preparing you for a challenging and rewarding career in gastronomy. Our mission is to allow you to master the knowledge, skills and experiences needed to be successful in your field. We have two programs. One where the teaching is conducted in Turkish. The other program is conducted partly in Turkish and partly in English (30 % ). Students are required to follow a one year english preparatory class which is then followed by a four year program. The four year program developed by our department is based on four major principles :

Courses on the fundamental concepts of corporate life such as accounting, business administration, law.
Courses on the various aspects of cooking
Worshops to develop practical skills and internships that will prepare students for the work place.
Courses that allow students to learn a second foreign language of their choice such as French / Russian / Chinese / Arabic / German.

Students can apply for a double major or a minor programme and may also study abroad within the framework of Erasmus programmes. To prepare students for the real working world, to allow them to gain valuable work experience and to provide a practical foundation for the career of their choice internships have been developed.

The instruction language of the program is Turkish but %30 of courses available in English with a compulsory English.
